PARC 101: This is a "Life Skills" class ,that is supported by the United Way. They meet at the Plainville High School during the school calendar year.
PARC's Programs: Our Program is designed to provide weekly social activities for our clients. The program incorporates individual activities as well as activities that require teamwork. The clients are able to participate in all of the programs regardless of their physical abilities.
Healthy Living Activities, sponsored by the United Way includes fitness activities at the Wheeler YMCA, Gentle Yoga on site, and Healthy cooking. We also offer arts & crafts, bowling, basketball, swimming, dances, parties and community outings incorporated throughout the program year.
Camp Trumbull: Our Camp is funded by a generous grant from the America Savings Foundation. We also receive funding support from the Plainville's Park & Recreation department and the Wheeler YMCA. PARC offers a six week summer program, and a February winter school vacation program. Camp Trumbull, in coordination with the Plainville and other surrounding community school districts allows school-aged community members with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy fun summer activities with other children their age while also maintaining the social, functional, and academic skills they have learned throughout the school year.
We would like to thank the American Savings Foundation, the Petit Foundation, the Ronald McDonald House and Stop and Shop of Bristol ,for their generous funding that has supported our special camp. We would also like to thank Plainville's Wheeler YMCA for sharing their program space, Parks & Recreation, and the Senior Citizen center for transportation.
Supported Employment Program "Work Right": This program offers services and supports individuals to tailor their personal outcomes, and helps them with acquiring and improving their work related skills. Our job developer and job coach will identify local businesses open to a collaboration and match job opportunities with potential clients. We want to thank the United Way and the Main Street Community Foundation for their generous support. For further information please contact Kati Ciaffaglione at 860-747-0316.
The Future of PARC in the years ahead is looking to establish an assisted living facility in Plainville geared towards serving adults with developmental disabilities where they can live in an atmosphere that fosters independence.
This has been a long term goal of PARC that is slowly coming to fruition. Development of new programs like this as well as the expansion of current programs, will depend greatly on the generosity of donors, corporations and community members like you.
